Bizzy's Breakfast Smoothie



I am absolutely in love with my daily breakfast smoothies.

They are 0 WW points and keep me full and energized until lunchtime. I kicked it up a notch by buying the Cuisinart smoothie maker, which is small, compact, easy to clean, and takes up very little room in our very little apartment. Plus, I can make the smoothies directly into my to-go cup, which eliminates the hassle of having to clean multiple items every time I want a glass of this deliciousness.
The great thing about this smoothie is that the ingredients can be changed to fit your fancy. I like putting in a lot of spinach because it doesn't change the texture or the taste, but gives you a real jump start on your nutrition for the day. Just check out the nutrition facts: it has tons of vitamins, minerals, protein, and fiber, just to name a few. In short, it's a superfood way to start off my super day!

Here is how I assemble mine, in this order (but like I said, you can mix and match to fit your taste preferences):
  • one banana, peeled, and broken up into 3-4 smaller pieces
  • 1 cup frozen strawberries
  • 1/2 cup frozen blueberries
  • approx. half a cup of water (I just get it straight from the tap to get my fluoride fix)
  • as much raw spinach as I can cram into the top
I throw all of that into my to-go cup, attach the blade, and blend, blend, blend!
Once it's to the consistency I prefer (which is basically liquid - no chunks), I gulp it down and am ready to start my day. The best part? This delicious drink packs a whopping 6 servings of fruits and vegetables - and since you're supposed to get at the minimum 5 servings a day, I'm off to a pretty kickass start from the get-go! (FYI - a 'serving' is 1/2 cup of fruits and veggies, or 1 cup of leafy greens - thank you, WW)
I recently ordered Amazing Grass All Natural Drink Powder to pack an even better nutritious punch into my morning, on Joy the Baker's recommendation. It just arrived, so I added a tablespoon to my breakfast smoothie this morning (to be specific, I added it after the fruit but before the spinach and water). I feel energized and alert already, which is awesome. There is definitely a subtle "grassy" taste, but I don't mind it at all since the fruit tastes dominate, and whenever I do taste the green powder, I am reminded that I am making nutritious decisions to start my day, and it makes me feel happy and empowered. True story. Plus, just LOOK at the nutritional value of this guy.

I highly recommend giving this smoothie a try.  The amount of calories and carbs may seem a bit off-putting at first, but it's all natural and all good for you.

  1. I'm a huge fan of the morning smoothie. I also add spinach, but I mix it with oj to cut the taste a bit. I add flaxmeal, too - maybe it does something similar to your green powder? I'm definitely curious about your to-go blender cup thingy. That would be wicked convenient. Currently I use my big blender and then pour everything into a mason jar. Either way, YUM YUM!!!!

  3. S Bracks - I definitely highly recommend the Cuisinart smoothie kit - less cleanup, and infinitely easier than the traditional blender. And at about $50, it's relatively cheap for the convenience it provides! Also, the Amazing Grass Green Superfood has flax seed powder in it - assuming that it's similar to your flaxmeal?
